Professor Peter Hoffmann is Vice President of the Australasian Proteomics Society, Conference Chair for the National Meeting of the Australasian Proteomics Society, and is Treasurer of the international Human Proteome Organisation (HUPO). For ten years, Peter’s research has delved into the identification of low abundant proteins and the mapping of their posttranslational modifications and their use as potential biomarkers for early detection of diseases, one of the biggest challenges in proteomics. He is leader in the field of Mass Spectrometry Imaging and his research group was the first to use this technology in Australia. He has experience transforming research into industry-relevant outcomes, recently forming Onco DX to commercialise patented biomarkers for the early detection of ovarian and gastric cancer.
A passionate advocate for the environment, Professor Enzo Lombi’s expertise in molecular biogeochemistry focuses on developing solutions for agriculture and the environment through the mechanistic understanding of biochemical processes.
Recipient of the prestigious 2016 Clunies Ross Innovation Award, Professor Peter Murphy translates innovative thin-film and polymer technologies into tailored solutions for industry. As UniSA’s first Industry Professor, he has delivered strategic collaborations and research partnerships between universities and industry.
A leading expert in translating minerals science research into solutions for the mining industry, Professor David Giles has extensive experience in mineral exploration and the development and implementation of the next generation of exploration geoscience.
Aligned to each of the Strand Leader appointments is a Professorial Chair. These appointments acknowledge and honour four acclaimed South Australians who have contributed to the development of a culture of industry engagement with research.
The appointments enrich the academic environment of the Institute and contribute to our spirit of enterprise.
